Do You Remember when Hollywood was on our side?
"During other periods of our history when America had to defend our allies or ourselves, such as World War II, Hollywood heroes such as Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Gary Cooper, Glenn Ford, Henry Fonda and Elvis Presley, Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin among others, donned our nations uniform and served their country with pride. They put their careers on hold to defend our country and our freedoms."

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MARCH 21, 2003
HERO, LLC Challenges Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to Remember Past Hollywood-Heroes Copy of Letter Sent To Academy Today Mr. Frank Pierson, President Mr. Gil Gates, Producer, Oscars Broadcast Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Messers Pierson and Gates: We realize that at this writing you are a little over 48 hours away from the Oscars broadcast. However, with the war in the Middle East ongoing and events fluid, HERO, LLC would like you to consider a taped segment honoring Hollywood Heroes of the past during your broadcast. Actors such as Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Glenn Ford, Audie Murphy, Ronald Reagan and many others, donned our nation's uniform with pride during World War II, in many cases delaying their careers by years. Elvis Presley served in Germany during the 50's. John Wayne though denied the opportunity to serve by the Navy, dedicated himself instead to make films such as "The Sands of Iwo Jima" as requested by the US Marine Corp and was given a special commendation for doing so and for the increased recruitments to the Marines following the release of the film. Sand from Iwo Jima was used in the cement for Mr. Wayne's footprints at Mann's Chinese Theater. During these difficult times, it would seem not only prudent but necessary to re-address with the American public, that while most of the news out of Hollywood these days consists of an anti-war stance, there was a time in Hollywood when that was not the case. Many people around the country today are angry with Hollywood. It would seem like a no-brainer to remind the Academy audience that Hollywood is not totally out of step with the majority of Americans supporting our military and their families during this stressful time. HERO would be more than happy to assist you with this effort in any way that would be helpful.
