Recent stories on Arnold and his race for Governor

It's Governor Arnold in a Landslide!!

and a

for Gray Davis!

10-02-03 - L.A. Times launches an attack on Arnold - He responds within hours

The Los Angeles Times had a front page story on continuing allegations that Arnold has had his issues with women during his 30 years in Hollywood.  Most accusers refused to be named, which doesn't enhance their credibility and they never pressed any kind of harassment charge at the time of any incident.

Arnold responded within hours with a statement which you can find here.  For those of you not familiar with hardball politics, this is fairly typical.  Wait until very late in a campaign, hit the candidate with your best shot and hope he doesn't have enough time to recover.

Prudence would dictate that we should believe Maria, Arnold's wife, who conducts her life based on what her husband is and has been to her, a devoted husband and father.

It would be amusing if this gets the opposition all riled up considering their defense of President Clinton during the Monica scandal, the collective feeling then was that's his personal life and shouldn't in anyway be held against the way he did his job.

09-29-03 - Arnold is running away with it in latest poll in CA!

The last full week of campaigning in the California recall election begins Monday, with movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger now leading the pack of more than 130 candidates.
A recent poll shows that 63 percent of voters say they would vote "yes" to oust Democratic Governor Gray Davis.

Among the candidates vying to replace Mr. Davis if he is recalled, Mr. Schwarzenegger surged ahead in the polls with 40 percent of those polled saying they would choose him. He was followed by Democratic Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante with 25 percent of the vote and Republican State Senator Tom McClintock with 18 percent. The CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll questioned 787 registered voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.

SAN FRANCISCO - A federal appeals court Tuesday unanimously reinstated California's Oct. 7 gubernatorial recall election, swiftly rejecting a three-judge panel's decision to put it off for months.

09-23-03 - Man behind recall urges Schwarzenegger or McClintock to drop out

San Francisco-AP -- The man who bankrolled the California recall effort is insisting that one of the two leading Republicans in the governor's race drop out. And to make it happen, he's issuing a political threat.

Congressman Darrell Issa (EYE'-suh) is afraid that Republican state senator Tom McClintock and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger will split conservative support -- and guarantee a victory for Democratic Lieutenant Governor Cruz Bustamante (boost-ah-MAHN'-tay) if California's governor is recalled.

Analysis: Schwarzenegger is increasingly seen by Republicans as the party's best bet
By Amy Chance -- Bee Political Editor

LOS ANGELES -- It was only last year that many state Republican Party activists were opting to back newcomer Bill Simon over former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan.
Though Riordan was widely considered the more electable of the two, he had consorted politically with Democrats for years, and Simon sided with the party's conservative activists on social issues. Their pick won the nomination only to lose the general election to Gov. Gray Davis.

But if the growing list of endorsements for actor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the hallway chatter at the state Republican Party convention were any indication, this is the year that party activists have concluded it's time to take a different approach.

Schwarzenegger Discusses Sex, Politics on 'Oprah'
 Mon September 15, 2003 02:09 PM ET - Reuters

By Michael Conlon
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday discussed comments he made about sex years ago, prompting wife, Maria Shriver, to put her hand across his mouth to stop him.

"My mother is watching the show. My mother is watching the show. My God," she said, laughing but appearing a bit flustered by the body builder actor-turned-politician's remarks during an appearance by the two on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

The event was their first joint interview in 26 years of marriage. Winfrey is a friend of Shriver, niece of President John F. Kennedy, and did a reading at their wedding. During the show, the couple also discussed their children and how he makes coffee for her every morning and tells her she is wonderful.

Shriver called him "the exact opposite" of a woman hater.

08-22-03 - The Left Brings Out Their Guns Against Arnold!!

Today in two stories from the NY Post, both the political left and the Hollywood Left have begun their fight against Arnold Schwarzenegger.

August 22, 2003 -- LOS ANGELES — Sen. Dianne Feinstein yesterday tore into Arnold Schwarzenegger's movies yesterday, panning the shoot-'em-up flicks for bringing bloodshed to California streets.

Feinstein came to the aid of her fellow Democrat, embattled Gov. Gray Davis, with a blistering thumbs-down review of Schwarzenegger's popular movies — which frequently show off high-powered weapons.

"Violence begets violence. And you become a role model for someone of lesser maturity out in the street to try to imitate what you do in the movies," Feinstein said.

"I don't consider these kinds of things terribly healthy for a society."

Well, this is what we have to say about that.  We read this story first thing this morning and the first thought we had was, who does Ms. Feinstein get campaign contributions from?  Surely, the senior senator from California must have supporters from Hollywood, no?

And we're absolutely positive that if Senator Feinstein has received contributions from producers, actors, or agents that had participated in films with guns or that portray a violent theme, then the Senator right now is combing through her records to refund contributions to the likes of Michael Douglas who starred in such warmhearted epics as Falling Down, A Perfect Murder and Traffic, all perfect for family viewing.  Or the CEO of Warner Brothers Pictures, producer of the Lethal Weapon series, or Sharon Stone, star of Casino, a violent look at the mob in 1970's Las Vegas.  You get the idea.

We think Senator Feinstein's statements today exhibit blatant hypocrisy and we're calling her on it.

Secondly, our old friends from the Hollywood Left have mobilized to fight against the recall and the campaign of their Hollywood brethren, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

August 22, 2003 -- Tom Hanks and many other card-carrying Hollywood Democrats are teaming up against Arnold Schwarzenegger to prevent the Terminator from becoming governor of California.

"Tom was furious when [a misleading] article in the Los Angeles Times appeared on Tuesday, saying Creative Artists Agency would help Arnold in his bid for governor," our spy said.

"Tom and other power players are absolutely against Arnold becoming governor," the source added.

The L.A. paper reported Schwarzenegger "has asked CAA to join his political effort, largely by tapping the Beverly Hills-based agency's entertainment relationships to help raise campaign funds and rally voters."

But CAA, whose 570 employees are overwhelmingly Democrats, quickly distanced itself from Schwarzenegger's campaign.

Along with Hanks, pot-loving actor Woody Harrelson is set to join the fight against Schwarzenegger. "Woody is diametrically opposed to Arnold Schwarzenegger's political positions," a spokesman for Harrelson told PAGE SIX. "He does not support the candidacy."

Oft-arrested protester Martin Sheen told "Access Hollywood" Schwarzenegger got his marching orders from the Bush administration. "The California recall is an effort to grab the state for the Republicans," Sheen said. "I suspect this came out of the White House. Frankly, it makes perfect sense after Florida."

Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds have also noted that the Governator would be a "huge" mistake, and Cybill Shepherd is freaked out by the prospect of the Austrian-born action hero in the executive mansion.

"That would be the worst tragedy in the history of California," Shepherd hyperventilated to "Access Hollywood."

"I think that we are the laughing stock of the world, with Arnold Schwarzenegger running [for] governor," Shepherd said. "I think he's a real hypocrite. I think he has a past that is going to come out, and I'm not going to mention what it is, but it's not going to be pretty."

Barbra Streisand, Steven Spielberg, Warren Beatty, Susan Sarandon, Al Franken, Ed Asner, Mike Farrell and Rob Reiner are also expected to rally against the Terminator.

In Hollywood, you can be the highest paid person in your industry, you can pass a proposition to help children, you can be an immigrant and become a  successful businessman and you can serve your country by being the chairman of the President' Council on Fitness, but if you're a (gasp) Republican, it's time for a holy war not seen in this town since another (gasp) Republican ran for governor, Ronald Reagan.

Activists, start your engines!!!

08-06-03 - Well, it's official, Arnold is running!!

Arnold Schwarzenegger is running for governor of California.  Arnold made his announcement on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight shocking Hollywood and political pundits and talking heads from coast to coast who were all absolutely sure he wasn't running.  Everyone was wrong.

Here's the thing. California is in a real mess and with the eclectic, to say the least, list of candidates declared in this race thus far, Arnold comes off looking like the sanest of the bunch and could possibly be the best hope for those ready to give the other party a chance to fix the grave financial problems facing California residents, a 38 Billion dollar deficit.

Just take a look at some of the declared candidates:  Porn peddler, Larry Flynt, Comedian Leo Gallagher, Arianna Huffington and possibly her ex-husband, Michael Huffington, and Gary Coleman of Different Strokes fame.  So far, over 400 candidates have requested papers to file for the recall.  They have until Saturday to file the papers along with a $3500.00 filing fee.

And for those who think Arnold is just a pretty face, he ran a successful ballot initiative state wide in California last year to provide funding for after school programs for underprivileged kids.  Funding for the program can only be executed once the budget mess in California is dealt with. This provides an extra incentive for his decision.

Some memorable quotes from his appearance on "The Tonight Show" and his press conference:

"The politicians are fiddling, fumbling and failing," he said. "The man that is failing the people more than anyone is Gray Davis. He is failing them terribly, and this is why he needs to be recalled and this is why I am going to run for governor."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

His message to politicians:  "You do your job and you do it well or else you're out and it's hasta la vista, baby"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"As you know, I'm an immigrant. I came over here as an immigrant, and what gave me the opportunities, what made me to be here today, is the open arms of Americans. I have been received. I have been adopted by America."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"I've seen firsthand coming here with empty pockets but full of dreams, full of desire, full of will to succeed, but with the opportunities that I had, I could make it. This is why we have to get back and bring California back to where it once was."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The biggest problem that we have is that California is being run now by special interests. All of the politicians are not anymore making the moves for the people, but for special interests and we have to stop that."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"As you know, I don't need to take any money from anybody. I have plenty of money myself. I will make the decisions for the people."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
