Do
you remember when
By Lisa Sarrach
In the 1940s, with America at war, Hollywood both in action and deed, rose to the challenge and defended our freedoms, worked with the War Department on propaganda films, helped to create posters, and produced films that honored our military and espoused our ideals.
Actors voluntarily signed up and served with honor, many seeing serious combat. Actresses and other entertainers sold war bonds, entertained the troops, and a few, like Audrey Hepburn, actually dabbled in espionage.
Yesterdays enemy was communism, todays is terrorism. Yesterday,
Weve all read and been disgusted by many of the antics of
these celebrity activists. It bears
repeating that as citizens of this country, celebrities enjoy the same freedom
of speech that we do. Its not their
right to campaign for their candidate that is at issue here. Whats at issue is their wholesale dismissal
of the American values, political ideology, and the moral barometer that the majority
of this country lives by and believes in.
Its no longer necessary for the "powers that be" in
They have sent us the message, loud and clear, that our concerns, do not concern them. That the ideals, values, faith, and moral clarity that drives us, make us feel secure, and gives us the strength to be proper representatives of the freedoms men have fought and died to preserve for us, mean nothing to these people.
Hollywood-Hero predicted in an article earlier this year
that this would be the ugliest presidential election in our recent
history. We can all see for ourselves
how ugly its really become. Escapism,
which used to be
The film industry so far this year has lauded Michael Moores Fahrenheit 9/11 as THE political tool for the Democratic Party. The same people who awarded this clown an Oscar for Bowling for Columbine, will no doubt hand him another one for this farce of a documentary, or as we call it a mockumentary. The hypocrisy of awarding non-fiction awards for fiction doesnt faze them a bit, as long as the message agrees with their agenda.
The next documentary to make waves is Outfoxed - soon to be in
a theater near you. This is the Lefts
latest attempt to squelch the ever-growing numbers for Fox News, and to derail
their continuing success. Liberals just
cant stand the idea of a news channel that doesnt adhere to the unwritten law
of getting the democratic talking points out every day as written by the New
York Times. Cant you just hear Dustin
Hoffmans Raymond Rainman saying repeatedly Time
for Michael Moore, yeah - Fox must be dealt with, Fox must be dealt with, Fox
sucks!
It really burns them to see the success of Fox News. They ignore, of course, what makes Fox News a
success, the fact that Liberals have more than an equal opportunity to get
their views heard, but also that, God forbid, conservatives have a voice as
well. The once mighty monopoly of
liberal group think is being challenged.
My gosh, we have to get those conservatives off the air, FOX sucks, yeah!
On to the remake of The Manchurian Candidate - produced by supporters of John Kerry, acted by supporters of John Kerry and directed by a supporter of John Kerry. What a surprise then, that the evil of communism has been replaced by a Halliburton-like corporation as the evil component, along with an evil, political stage mother, who is, of course, wait for it, a Republican. Of course, they dont come right out and say that - they do what they always do, imply it. Democrats, good - Republicans, bad.
Wouldnt it have been something if they remade this movie
with an al Qaeda operative brainwashing our soldiers during the first Gulf
War? An insight into how our real
enemies are determined to kill us, to plot and plan for years before
striking? No, we cant have that - that
would be profiling. Its much better to
make the enemy corporate
Frank Sinatra must be turning over in
his grave. Shame on his daughter Tina, who
was put in charge of protecting the legacy of this film, to allow it to be used
for partisan political purposes. Mr.
Sinatra pulled the original Manchurian Candidate out of theaters in 1963 out
of respect for President Kennedy after his assassination and in a quibble with
United Artists over shares of receipts.
The film wasnt shown in former communist bloc countries until 1993 and
wasnt re-released in this country until 1987.
Mr. Sinatra famously rejected the
Democrat party after President Kennedy snubbed him in favor of Bing Crosby
during a trip to the West Coast. He
never voted for a democrat again, was a life long friend of the Reagans, and would
fail to appreciate how this film is going to be used by the democrats as yet
another tool to advance their agenda in this election.
Moving on to the music industry, weve all heard about the Dixie Chicks, Linda Ronstadt, and the host of musical entertainers who are campaigning in one shape or form for the Democrats this year. I have no problem with entertainers campaigning for the candidate of their choice, as long as the audience knows about it, has knowledge that their ticket price is going to a cause and is informed in advance that political talk will be injected into the performance. But as Linda Ronstadt discovered, audiences are much less tolerant when political agendas are foisted upon them when they paid to hear entertainment.
Nevertheless, most of the rock, hip-hop, and pop industries are poised to speak their collective mind against President Bush at many a concert date between now and the election. Just yesterday a group of singers headed by Bruce Springsteen announced a concert tour called Vote for Change sponsored by the radical left wing groups Moveon.org and Americans Coming Together (ACT). Springsteen will be joined on tour by the Dixie Chicks, Jackson Browne, Dave Matthews, Bonnie Raitt and James Taylor. They are touring in the battleground states, campaigning for John Kerry and advancing a progressive political agenda.
At least this tour is honest about its motives. My question is where the We Love the Heartland! tour and headed up by country
music artists for President Bush. Come
on
By the way, where are you, Hollywood Republicans, the country music industry? I know of two people who are campaigning for President Bush - Randy Travis and Dennis Miller.
For those few of you that do support President Bush and his strong stand against terrorism, who reject the Blame America First mentality, and care about quality product that doesnt demean and exploit where are you?
How can you remain silent?
How can you stand being lumped in with the rest of them? Havent we proven that
Hollywood-Hero issued a blanket plea to show support for
President Bush over a year ago. We asked
all members of the
But I digress.
Whether implied or right in your face, entertainers are beaming their political view of the world right into our living rooms, on our movie screens and in our concert halls.
The question becomes, what do we do about it? And how did this animosity for all things Republican reach the ear piercing scream we hear today? Obviously, these are two different questions that require two distinct answers. Today well deal with the first question, and address the second, in an upcoming column.
As to the first question, when are we going to start fighting back, and how do we fight back. The obvious answer is to be more vigilant in our choices. We have to continue to reject the lack of quality inherent in todays mass marketing of reality programming, that seeks to demean and exploit virtually every known demographic in this country.
We have to continue to make our voices known, when network executives go over the line of decency, promote moral decay, and aim it right at our kids. We have to reject the in your face liberalism thats injected into our programming, demeaning Christians, conservatives and Republicans wherever possible.
Just as importantly, when Hollywood manages to create a good program, produce a good movie and launch a new singer, that actually sings with lyrics and everything, and with her clothes on, we have to stand up and say, HEY, right on!
Now, the problem with this theory is that a lot of this is
already going on, and
The comedy is virtually dead, replaced by the
aforementioned, low cost to produce, reality program. The West Wing, the Clinton
Administration revisionist history lesson, is on its way out, plagued with low
ratings and having lost whatever sense of humor it used to have in favor of,
again, wait for it, bashing Republicans and worshiping at the mantle of Michael Moore, yeah!
All of this to say, both in quality and in their activism, Hollywood has declared war on all of us who dont agree with them, who dont appreciate their pushing the envelope in our kids faces, and long for the day when they were more concerned with producing quality work, then making political statements.
Remember this, we created this monster, we gave them the power; and they are laughing all the way to the bank on our dime.
To hear just one voice from the
Time for my own line from a movie Its time to go to the mattresses!
Its time for the silent majority to wake up and start
putting our money where our mouths are we built them up we can take them
down. Our money allows them their
celebrity, their successes, their bottom-line.
Its past time we remember that and act accordingly.
We all need to pay attention to advertisers, network executives, actors, musicians, and filmmakers. If you feel they go over the line of good taste, political activism or just plain stupidity, reject the project by turning off, tuning out and writing letters.
Support the rare good project and the rare alternative voice
when you hear it. Help Hollywood-Hero
convince those in
