Do You Remember
when Hollywood was on our side?

"During other periods of our history when
America had to defend our allies or ourselves, such as World War II,
Hollywood heroes such as
Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Gary Cooper, Glenn Ford, Henry Fonda and Elvis

others, donned our nations uniform and served their country with pride.
They put their careers on hold to defend our country and our freedoms."

Twists Mel Gibson's Remarks
Last Friday night,
Jan. 23, Mel Gibson was interviewed by Raymond Arroyo on the EWTN show "The

the Christ." Portions of that interview were shown on several TV shows, but
only one has created any controversy: CBS's "The Early Show" that aired
today. "The Early Show" ran the following exchange between Arroyo and
Gibson:
Gibson: "The film collectively blames humanity for the death of Jesus. Now
there are no exemptions there, all right? I'm the first on the line for
culpability I did it. Christ died for all men, for all times."
Arroyo: "Including the Jewish people?"

Mel Gibson wants moviegoers to get their fill of The Passion of Jesus
Christ.
The Hollywood star's Icon Productions has announced plans, along with indie
distributor Newmarket Films, to release his controversial movie about the
last 12 hours in the life of Jesus Christ on 2,000 screens in theaters

Aramaic.

Pope Likes Mel Gibson's
Film on Christ's Passion
Thu December 18, 2003 08:25 AM ET
By Philip Pullella
VATICAN CITY (Reuters)
- Pope John Paul has seen Mel Gibson's controversial film "The Passion"
about Christ's final hours and was moved by it, a Vatican source said on
Thursday.
He said the pope saw the film with his long-time Polish secretary,
Archbishop Stanislaw Dziwisz, about 10 days ago.
The source also confirmed reports that the pope told his secretary after
viewing the film: "It is as it was," meaning he considered it an authentic
portrayal of Gospel accounts of the last hours in Christ's life.
The movie, which covers the final 12 hours in the life of Jesus Christ, has
come under fire from some Jewish groups who fear its story could foment
anti-Semitism because it portrays Jewish authorities as largely responsible
for Christ's death.
ADL
Reacts to Reports the Pope Has Screened Mel Gibson's Film 'The Passion'
NEW YORK, Dec. 17
/U.S. Newswire/ -- The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today
reacted to media reports that Pope John Paul II recently previewed Mel
Gibson's film, "The Passion of Christ" and indicated through an
intermediary his approval of its account of the events leading up to the
crucifixion of Jesus.
Abraham H. Foxman, ADL national
director, issued the following statement:
"If in fact Pope John Paul II
has screened Mel Gibson's 'The Passion of Christ' and if in fact his
reaction to the film was positive, as has been reported, then we respect
his statement. The Pope has a record and history of sensitivity to the
Jewish community and has a clear moral voice and understanding when it
comes to anti-Semitism.

Mel Gibson's "The Passion" gets a
thumbs-up from the pope.

Here's some happy news this Christmas season, an unexpected gift for those
who have seen and admired Mel Gibson's controversial movie, "The Passion,"
and wish to support it. The film has a new admirer, and he is a person of
some influence. He is in fact the head of the Holy Roman Catholic and
Apostolic Church.
Pope John Paul II saw the movie the weekend before last, in the Vatican,
apparently in his private rooms, on a television, with a DVD, and
accompanied by his closest friend, Msgr. Stanislaw Dziwisz. Afterwards and
with an eloquent economy John Paul shared with Msgr. Dziwisz his verdict.
Dziwisz, the following Monday, shared John Paul's five-word response with
the co-producer of The Passion, Steve McEveety.
This is what the pope said: "It is as it was."

Mel
Gibson's Ultimate Hero Movie
An Art Historian's View of "The
Passion"
By Elizabeth Lev
ROME, DEC. 10, 2003
(Zenit.org).- For a fortunate few of us Rome dwellers, the
most exciting event of this week was the advance screening of Mel Gibson's
"The Passion of the Christ."
In a small basement cinema of Rome's Prati district, producer Steve McEveety
tersely introduced the film, explaining that we would be seeing a mere rough
cut of the newest Gibson opus.
From the stream of articles and testimonies this movie has spawned, it seems
that most people who have previewed the film didn't know what to expect. I
did. I am a diehard Mel Gibson fan, and I expected the best. He didn't let
me down.
What did surprise me was that the person I always associated with the
entertainment side of my life crossed over into my professional world. As a
Renaissance art historian, I analyze art on chapel walls, above altars or in
museums. Though film is arguably the world's greatest art medium, I
generally turn off these faculties on entering the movie theater, as they
are rarely called upon for today's films.
In the case of "The Passion," every scene, every frame, is richly crafted to
draw the viewer deeper and deeper into the story. A masterpiece of religious
art -- of the most powerful sort -- "The Passion" involves the viewer to the
point that he or she becomes part of the story.

Harris Poll Results Show
Tom Hanks, #1 Last
Year, Slips to #4, Behind Julia Roberts (#2)
And Sean Connery (#3)
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Every year at this time the
Harris Poll asks a nationwide cross-section of adults who is their favorite
movie star. This year Mel Gibson, who was #2 a year ago and has been in the
top four every year since 1994, recaptures the top place, which he also held
in 1996. Julia Roberts, who was #1 in 2001 and #3 last year, moves up to #2
now.
These are the results of a nationwide poll of 1,102 adults conducted
online by Harris Interactive(R) between November 17 and 23, 2003.
There are a number of changes in the top nine places in addition to Julia
Roberts moving up and Tom Hanks slipping out of the top place. However, most
of these changes are very modest and overall the listing is remarkably
stable:
-- Sean Connery moves up to #3 from #5 last year.
-- Tom Hanks has slipped from #1 last year to #4 this year.
-- Harrison Ford held the #4 slot last year; but this year he shares #5
with Tom Cruise, who moves up from #9 last year.
-- John Wayne, who was first or second in the list almost every year
until 2001, slips from #6 last year to #7 now.
-- Clint Eastwood retains the #8 position he held last year.
-- Denzel Washington slips from #7 last year to #9 now.

his assault on Mel Gibson and The Passion.
Hollywood-Hero
will continue to monitor the vicious attacks this film has generated within the
elite media and certain organizations that insist Mr. Gibson is an anti-Semite
and his film, anti-Semitic.
Hollywood-Hero
maintains that there are some very powerful people in this industry and in
academia, who will continue to oppose this film and what it purports to
represent. Christian films have historically had a difficult time getting
produced in Hollywood, and the all out assault against this film, make no
mistake about it, is also an assault on our values, our history, and to further
the continued secularization of this country. The Pledge of Allegiance
can't include Under God, The Ten Commandments must be removed from public view,
and no attempt to film Christ's Passion can be allowed to get to our movie
screens.

As for the rest of Mel Gibson's
threats, context is all: the guy is a movie star. Movie stars expect to
get their own way. They are surrounded by sycophants, many of them on the
payroll. Should a discouraging word somehow prick the bubble of
fabulousness in which they travel, even big-screen he-men can turn into
crybabies. Mr. Gibson's tirade sounded less like a fatwa from the
Ayatollah Khomeini than a tantrum from Sinatra in his cups.

Crowe on 'The Passion':
Mel's come unglued - The Arizona Republic
It's just one man's opinion, but it
looks like Mel Gibson's controversial new film won't be getting a rave review
from Russell Crowe.
MSNBC's celebrity-tattling The Scoop says Crowe was asked on a Chicago
radio station what he thought about The Passion, which his fellow
Aussie wrote, bankrolled and directed.
The Beautiful Mind star promptly made fun of the movie, which looks at
the last day of Jesus Christ, and was particularly amused that The Passion
reportedly is being made in archaic languages without subtitles.
"Well if what I've heard about it is fair dinkum (Aussie for 'true'), that he
spent $25 million making a movie that's shot in Aramaic and Latin and he's
intending to release it without subtitles, I think he's got to get off the
glue," Crowe said.
"What's the point of making a movie where people can't understand what's going
on? I don't understand that. If you want it for reality or whatever, I think,
'Wow, what an amazing idea,' but also what a waste of time if nobody can get
what the point is."
It was pointed out that Gibson has said he doesn't need subtitles because
everyone knows the story.
"Well, if we know the story, if we know it that well, why did (he) bother
making it again?"
Let us point out to the he-man that everyone knew the Titanic story and still
went in droves.

Fox rebuffs Mel's 'Passion'

DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER
Mel Gibson can't even get his pals at 20th Century Fox Studios to distribute his
graphic and bloody movie about the last hours of Jesus Christ's life.
Gibson's film company, Icon Productions, has been searching for a distributor to
release "The Passion," which Jewish leaders say is anti-Semitic for its
portrayal of Jews during the time of Christ's Crucifixion.
Film clips show hooded and cloaked Jews rejoicing as a battered and tortured
Christ carries the Cross to his death.
Fox, which has a joint production deal with Icon, had the first option to
distribute the controversial movie.
But the studio has decided to pass, a spokesman for News Corp., the studio's

Not often does a movie get the kind of

bigotry and anti-Semitism" (the Anti-Defamation League). "Could readily promote
anti-Semitism" (Sister Mary C. Boys of New York City's Union Theological

Mel Gibson Screens Religious Movie In Colorado

June 2003
We think it's important to keep track of the continuing attacks
concerning Mel Gibson's new film, The Passion. Lost in all the attacks from
people who haven't seen a cut of the film, is someone who has and defends it.
Newsmax has the story here. Rush Limbaugh has also been shown the film and his
account can be found here.
Hollywood-Hero will continue to monitor events and bring to you news concerning
this heroic effort by Mr. Gibson to bring a realistic version of Christ's
crucifixion to the screen.
It's an unfortunate reality today that anything goes in
Hollywood, unless you're a Christian.
We need to support Mr. Gibson and his film, as he
had to finance it himself, no one in Hollywood would touch it. Isn't that
something? For over 20 years, Mr. Gibson has made a fortune for the
studios. Every day in Hollywood some star's pet project gets green-lighted
and made based on their value to a studio.
But attempt to make a movie based on the singular
event in Christian history that over 80% of the people in this country believe
in and revere every Easter, well that's just too much for Hollywood to deal
with.
With all the dreg that comes out of Hollywood
every year, maybe the powers that be should more carefully consider the films
that make money for them.
An film starring Jim Carrey called
Bruce Almighty
that deals with God in a amusing positive way has made 210.5 million dollars
since its debut in May.
Finding Nemo,
an animated feature for kids has made $223 million since May.
While The Passion might be difficult for some
people to watch as it's been reported to be brutally realistic in its depiction
of the crucifixion and the fact that is was filmed in Latin without subtitles,
