Pat Tillman
True American Hero - True
Hollywood-Hero
Pat Tillman, former Arizona Cardinal who
enlisted with his brother Kevin after 9/11 was and is an American and
Hollywood-Hero unlike
any we've seen since the golden Era of Hollywood that we speak so much about
here on this site.
Pat epitomized humility, sacrifice and a
sense of purpose so lacking in today's celebrity culture. A college
football star, a pro player with Arizona, he was facing a looming contract with
Arizona for over 3.6 million dollars. But this was the post 9/11 world of
contract negotiations. In a post 9/11 world, multi-million dollar
contracts take second place to service to one's country when we are attacked.
At least for this true American, Pat Tillman.
Pat rejected officer's training, which he
was entitled to go for, considering his college education. By the way, he
maintained a 3.7 grade point average while starring in the football program.
Instead he enlisted as a grunt and ASKED to be considered as an Army Ranger, one
of the most dangerous assignments in our military - a special forces unit.
He served in both Iraq and Afghanistan,
where he was killed in a firefight last week.
This week, Pat Tillman will be laid to
rest in Arizona, his home.
Pat eschewed glamour and never wanted to
be considered differently for serving than any other American just because he
played football.
Sorry Pat, that's the one request that
will be hard to honor. There's just too few real heroes in this country
anymore from your world. We have to take you as the example for America's
youth that you are.
While we have real heroes across this
country serving in our military and we applaud and love every single one of them
for their love of country, their sacrifice and their service - we WILL reserve a
special place in our hearts and a permanent place of honor for Pat Tillman here
at Hollywood-Hero.
He joins our Hollywood-Hero
Hall of Fame members from a different Era and with it the continuing hope that
he won't remain the only one from the 21st century that understands there are
bigger concerns than self in our new post 9/11 world.
God bless Pat Tillman, and God Bless
America
